I’ve always been fascinated by the myth of the Phoenix. There is something deeply powerful about a creature that rises from its own ashes, transformed and renewed. As an artist, this idea has resonated with me many times throughout my life — moments of starting over, facing challenges, and reshaping both who I am and what I create.

Capturing the Phoenix: The Design of BIROI
When I began designing BIROI, my goal was to capture the essence of the Phoenix in motion — wings extended, rising through flames. I chose Voronoi structures because they echo the organic, crackling logic of fire: chaotic yet ordered, destructive yet life-giving.
Across the surface, the pattern expands and contracts, creating rhythm, movement, and transformation. Each curve and void reflects resilience, while the shifting scale of the structure adds a sense of energy and growth.
How Parametric Design and 3D Printing Shaped BIROI
BIROI was born at the intersection of art and technology. I chose 3D printing because it allows for intricate, fluid geometries that traditional jewelry methods cannot achieve. Using Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper, I explored parametric systems where small adjustments generate entirely new outcomes.
Coming from a background in macro-scale architecture, translating spatial clarity into micro-scale wearable objects was a major challenge. Each iteration required careful testing to balance structure, weight, comfort, and expression.
